Completed First Environment Painting

Finished my first digital painting of an environment concept (based on something I had a dream about). I restarted this project 6 times applying what I learned from various digital painting tutorials. The most helpful was the Sycra Foundations of Light and Shadow videos and the FZDSCHOOL Realtime Painting. I definitely learned a lot as I was working on this piece. FDZSCHOOL's method of treating a digital painting like a real painting and not using undo or multiple layers is now my preferred method. Sycra's methods of how to apply lighting and shadows according to the perspective and the direction of the light source have also become a preferred method.

(Side note: Did not add any textures like paneling to the houses or texture of the stone wall and road. I'm sure that is a whole other lesson to learn)

I have now started on my next environment concept that is also based on something I had a dream about.

August Sketchbook Pages

The top of the first page are a few caricatures (not the one in the middle though) and below it is just a character from my imagination. The 2nd page is of a little scenario that I got an idea for while listening to Cops and Robbers by The Hoosiers. The 3rd page is my attempt to caricature a hyena.

A side note about my sketches, I have a rule that each sketch is only worked and re-worked on the day I draw it. This means that I cannot go back and fix anything on a drawing the day after. Instead I either move on to a new drawing or re-draw it the next day rather than fix the original one. This keeps me from being over meticulous.
